Genipin((+)-Genipin) is an active aglycone derived from an iridoid glycoside called geniposide, which is found in the fruit of Gardenia jasminoides Ellis. Genipin was originally identified as a protein cross-linking agent. Genipin ameliorates hypertension-induced renal damage via the angiotensin II-TLR/MyD88/MAPK pathway. genipin shows therapeutic potential for central neurodegenerative diseases. IRE1α inhibition by natural compound genipin on tumour associated macrophages reduces growth of hepatocellular carcinoma.
