Punicalagin is a polyphenolic component extracted from the leaves of Punica granatum L. or Terminalia catappa L. Punicalagin is a reversible and noncompetitive 3CLpro inhibitor that can suppress SARS-CoV-2 replication in vitro. Punicalagin is a bioactive molecule against HBV (hepatitis B virus) and has antioxidant, anti~inflammatory and anti-cancer effects. Punicalagin may be used to be used in COVID-19 research.
