Fmoc-Glu(OtBu)-OH is the glutamic acid deriviative used most often in solid phase peptide synthesis. The sidechain tert-butyl ester is removed by the same conditions required to cleave peptides from Wang resin or Rink amide resin. Other glutamic acid derivatives are available that allow selective deprotection of glutamic acid residues in the presence of t-butyl based protecting groups.
